A review of Lynn Marks' resume is a history course in some of the more pressing public policy issues of our time.
From working to secure fair housing, to championing the right to privacy for victims of domestic abuse, Marks - currently executive director of Pennsylvanians for Modern Courts - has worked to put a fairer face on legal institutions.
She has done it by educating herself getting a degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School - and gaining respect from those who work in the systems she seeks to change.
"I think she's respected because she's honest in her thinking," said Edmund B. Spaeth Jr., former president judge of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania until his retirement in 1986. "She tries to persuade, but she can also be persuaded."
It has been a question of style, said Marks.
"My style has always been one of trying to work with the system and forge coalitioris, as opposed to confronting and yelling and screaming," she said. "Because I believe, for me, I get more done that way. I think there is a real role for...
