SEEKING TO REASSERT its position in the portables market, Compaq Computer Corp. chose the backdrop of last week's PC Expo to launch its new slimline notebook family, upgrade its high-end LTE 5000 series, and unveil a low-cost 100-MHz Pentium notebook line.
At the center of attention is Compaq's new Armada 4100 line, the Houston company's version of the much-publicized slim, light notebook. Billed as a flexible, multiuse machine, the Armada 4100 is a 5pound, 1.5-inch-high notebook that can be transformed into a more standard 7.8-pound multimedia portable by attaching a clip-on module to its bottom.
