Have you ever wanted to share a folder on your Windows NT server and not have it show up in the Network Neighborhood (on Windows NT computers) or My Network Places (on Windows 2000 computers)? If so, you can easily hide a shared folder by ending the name of the share with a dollar sign ($). Begin by opening Windows Explorer and right-click on the folder for which you want to create a hidden share. Choose Sharing, and then select Shared As. By default, Windows NT assigns a share name to the folder that's the same as the folder name. For example, if you share a folder with the name of Test, by default, Windows NT makes the share name Test as well. To hide the share, change this share name by adding a $ at the end, as shown in Figure A. Configure the Permissions as necessary, and then click OK.
