Biography: Paul O'Brien, MD

Abstract

Paul OBrien is a leader of bariatric surgery in Australia and, through his teaching and research, he has influenced bariatric surgeryparticularly related to gastric bandingacross many parts of the world. It is fair to say that he is one of the most successful and prominent band surgeons. Although he began practicing across a very broad surgical base, he has spent most of his clinical and research career in upper and lower gastrointestinal surgery and now exclusively researches and treats obesity. His contributions to bariatric surgery extend way beyond Australia, and he is indisputably one of the leaders of bariatric surgery in the world.
