Abstract

Kastamonu and its neighbourhood, located in the Northern Anatolia, played a crucial role in the protection of the homeland against occupations following the World War I. However, this part of Anatolia had never been occupied in the wake of the Armistice of Mudros signed by Ottoman government. Following the armistice a branch of the Association for Defence of National Rights was promptly established and organized in the region. Moreover, armed forces were settled and meetings were organized. Local people were informed on ongoing events through the press. Thus, this study aims to shed light to some remarkable points on the organization of the national movement in Kastamonu and its neigbourhood as well as the contribution of the city to the War of Independence.
