Godo Steel operates two electric mills at Funabashi and Himeji and an integrated mill and EAF at Osaka. Its products are reinforcing bar, bar, wire rod, shapes and special steels.
Funabashi Works has a steelmaking capacity of lMt/y from a single 120t UHP electric furnace, but is presently working at only 40-50% of capacity. Melting is restricted to night time and weekends when electricity tariffs are 2.5 times lower than week days. 95% of production is reinforcing bar and 5% smooth bar for structural applications.
Steelmaking equipment consists of a 60k VA AC furnace and a 120t ladle furnace. The EAF is enclosed in a 'dog-house' which reduces maximum noise levels from 105 to 85dB. Power flicker is compensated for by a 60kVA rotary capacitor. The furnace has oxyfuel...
