Abstract

The general purpose of this study was to determine if the implementation of the Brazosport Model improves student reading achievement as determined by Arizona's Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS). In particular, this study examined the implementation of the Brazosport Model and its effect on the achievement of English Language Learners (ELLs) in a specific elementary school. The implementation of the model occurred in the 2009-2010 school year. The subjects of this study were students in one elementary school in a southern Arizona school district. The study compiled a cohort of ELL students who attended the elementary school for two consecutive school years. The ultimate goal of this study was to provide information to the school district on the effectiveness of the Brazosport Model on the ELL subgroup. The achievement data used in the analysis were the 2010 AIMS results for the ELL subgroup; these results were compared to the 2009 subgroup's AIMS results prior to the implementation.
