Introduction
The Chengdu poet Zhai Yongming has been one of the most influential Chinese poets for the past thirty years. Her work is known for its diversity of style, language and subject matter. She has published seven poetry collections and numerous essay collections. She has also collaborated with the filmmaker Jiang Zhangke, with whom she cowrote 24 City. Along with die poet Zhou Zan, she co-founded die first unofficial journal of women's poetry in China, Wings, and served as one of the moderators on the women's poetry discussion forum at poemlife.com. Since 1998 she has coowned White Nights, a bar in Chengdu that hosts many poetry readings, book launch parties, art exhibits, film showings and musical performances. Her bar is one of the meeting places of artists and writers in die vibrant arts and poetry scene in Chengdu.
