Philanthropist, former pet-company owner, and violin collector HERBERT AXELROD, 78, has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for aiding and abetting the filing of a false tax return (see "The Rise and Fall of Herbert Axelrod," May 2005) after pleading guilty to the charge on March 21. An additional charge of conspiracy to defraud the IRS was dismissed.
