Edith Piaff is coming through the speakers as spectators cram into the smallish studio. A giant table full of Dr. Frankenstein hardware and Betty Crocker's goods, a TV's eerie glow. It's the opening act of the Edgy Women Festival, a fresh and frightening show featuring an eclectic bunch of artists from New York and Montreal. With over ten pieces during the two day event (including zinester/spoken word diva Alexis O'Hara), it's hard to pinpoint favourites. I'll pick two slightly odd pieces that come to mind.
Veg-Omatic, the first piece by W.W.K.A. (Women With Kitchen Appliances featuring Aneessa Hashmi, Dagmara Stephan, Anna-Louise Crago, Onya Hogan-Finlay, and Michelle Bush) comes in the form of a sweet nightmare from a horror...
