John W. Dafoe prize
short list announced
The 2019 short list for the $10,000 John W. Dafoe Book Prize for excellence in subject matters about Canada, Canadians and the Canadian nation in international affairs has been announced.
Of the 38 entries, the five shortlisted books are Fen Osler Hampson’s Master of Persuasion: Brian Mulroney’s Global Legacy; Taylor Hollander’s Power, Politics and Principles: Mackenzie King and Labour, 1935-1948; D’Arcy Jenish’s The Making of the October Crisis: Canada’s Long Nightmare of Terrorism at the Hands of the FLQ; Jacques Poitras’ Pipe Dreams: The Fight for Canada’s Energy Future; and Joan Sangster’s One Hundred Years of Struggle: The History of Women and the Vote in Canada.
The award will be presented at the J.W. Dafoe Foundation’s annual dinner in May.
