LEIGH SALES, PRESENTER: Two journalists, one from Australia and one from Canada, have been held hostage in Somalia since August last year.
Photographer Nigel Brennan from Bundaberg and Amanda Lindhout were on a freelance assignment when they were kidnapped.
This week, the two were for the first time quoted in a news agency story as saying their health was deteriorating and they were being kept in shackles.
Two local Somalis acting as driver and translator for the pair were kidnapped along with them, but were released in January.
The Australian Government says it's doing all it can, but the now freed Somali translator says nobody from the Australian Government has tried to contact him for any information about what happened.
